The supply chains can be defined as a global network used to deliver products and services from raw materials to end customers through an engineered flow of information, physical distribution, and cash. Whereas, logistics is the art and science of obtaining, producing, and distributing material and

product in the proper place and in proper quantities. In the past, many company managers placed most of their attention on the issues that were internal to the companies. Specialists in purchasing, sales, and logistics were assigned to ‘deal’ with those outside entities. The first major change in that perspective can be traced to the explosive growth in JIT concepts in the 1970s. Suppliers and customers were viewed as a partners with mutually linked destinies. The power of supply chain and logistics management has potential to include the customers, suppliers, and 3PL providers as partners in supplying the goods or services to customers. Supply chain and logistics management represents a significant change in how professional managed organizations compete in the global markets.
